Introduction:

As a mother of twin girls I felt that it would be such a great gift for my daughters to write children’s book about the stories from their life – as a nice memory from their childhood. They very often ask me now – at age 4 – “Mommy, tell us about your childhood, tell us some stories what did you do as a child!” And even though I have a lot of lovely memories I don’t remember too much from the times I was in their age. I hope I can help them a little bit with these stories. Adding a little bit of spice to the stories I also created interactive books and several iPad applications with Niki & Jazmin. I have got a lot of feedback from my kids what they like and what they dislike in certain games. I try to combine those and make the applications for their taste. I believe that the stories I write and the applications I make can help other kids to learn new things and they might even find some events familiar, similar to their life. I hope you will enjoy the stories of Niki and Jazmin as much as I was creating those!

When did you decide to develop this app?
I have started to write children’s books/stories based on the events which happend in my little girls’ life during the summer of 2012. The Little Patient was one of the first stories I have wrote and published as an iBook. A digital book doesn’t give the same feeling for kids as the traditional books, so I instantly felt that adding interaction and narration would be needed for my stories.  Right after finishing my first interactive book The toyswing I planned to create an interactive book from the story of The Little Patient.

When did you first release this app?iPad Screenshot 3
The Little Patient just got released in mid May.

How long did it take you to develop this app?
In calendar time it took me several months if I include writing and drawing the story. The actual app development took me about 3-4 weeks, since I did everything by myself with some help of my husband, except the narration (big thanks to Julie for that) – though I did the recording of the audio myself  also:)
What is your favourite feature?
This is a story book, so it’s mainly about interacting with the characters/objects on the scene. There is an easter egg on each scenes which are taking place in the doctor’s room – there is a peekaboo character jumping out of the drawer in the cabinet.
What is your favourite page in the app?

My favorite page is the last scene, when Jazmin finally recovered and the girls are running around the room.

What skills were you hoping to help the end user to develop?

The main purpose of this story is to tell the little kids about what happens at the doctor, there is nothing to be afraid of. You can see also that sisters do worry about each other even though they fight quite often. In the game part of the app – the sticker album – kids can enhance fine motor skills by moving, pinch zooming the objects. It helps with creativity also.

What age range would this app most suit?
My little ones are 4 years old and they enjoy it very much. In my opinion the age range would be 2-6 years.
Are any new updates coming soon?
I’m considering to add similar star collection to each page as I had in The toy swing and also Hungarian and Finnish edition is coming soon!
