Description:

Elfishki are little fairy tale creatures who live on the beautiful Rainbow Island in the middle of the Sparkling Sea. Some of them can fly like butterflies and some can swim like mermaids. They share the island with enchanted animals who can speak and legendary trees who do not talk but understand everything. All in all, this is a place where miracles happen every day.

Our very first fairy tale storybook for iPad, “Elfishki and The Giant Cake” , was released in December 2011. We spent about six month developing it and making sure that everything was perfect.

My son Gabriel, who was 6 at the time, was learning to read, so we decided to create something that could help him develop his conscious reading and comprehension skills.  However, most of the material we could find for our iPad either did not have specifically what we wanted, or simply wasn’t fun enough to hold his attention.

When Gabriel saw our Elfishki (magical creatures in our fairy tales) illustrations, he was instantly fascinated by them, so we knew that if we created an interactive fairy tale storybook for him, he would enjoy reading it.  And that’s what we did.  As of today we have three iPad fairy tale storybooks in the App Store, and we are currently working on our 4th one – “Elfishki and the Sea Carnival”.

The first testers of any of our apps are our own children.  My son is now 8 years old; Inessa, our wonderful art director and a partner, has two children who are 8 and 4.  So before we release anything to the public, we make sure our own children give our storybooks “Thumbs Up”.

All of our storybooks are multilingual (at least in English and Russian, and one even in Spanish) with professional voice-overs.  The main audience is children ages 4 to 9, but our books are really made to get the parent involved in the reading process, so it’s important that kids read our storybooks together with parents.  When a parent needs a well-deserved break, there is a bonus game for the child included in each of our fairy tale.

Like I mentioned before, the main goal of our storybooks is to develop your child’s conscious reading and comprehension skills.  We do this in two ways:

Firstly, each one of our original fairy tales is written in accordance with the Common Core State Standard For English Language Arts.

Secondly, on each page of the text you will find three open-ended questions, specifically designed to test your child’s comprehension of the text, demonstrate understanding of the story, and make predictions about what will happen next.

One important update we plan to put in all of our storybook is something that are users have been asking for – highlighted text as the story is being read by a professional voice-over actor.  Once we are done, we will update all of our apps for free with this new feature.

Thank you, and I hope you enjoy our fairy tale storybooks! 🙂
