Five Little Monkeys Play Hide and Seek

Oceanhouse Media continues to be very busy with creating new apps!  This time, they have added to their Five Little Monkeys omBook Series.  Five Little Monkeys Play Hide and Seek is the digital version of Eileen Christelow’s book of the same name that was published in 2010.  These five mischievous monkeys always create a good laugh for their readers.

In this app, the mom is headed out for the evening and leaves Lulu the babysitter in charge of the monkeys.  Lulu played hide and seek with the five little monkeys before their bedtime.  Lulu counts up to 10, 24, and finally 104.  My daughter has been working with numbers for awhile now, so she, and I,  were both fascinated with the pages with numbers on them.  She counted right along with the narrator! So this app is not only a fun story, but also a great opportunity to reinforce counting numbers! And what little monkey can resist the idea of a little mischief around bedtime? My three year old was happily surprised at the end of the cute story and for all those kids who like to play when it’s bedtime, this might be a good reinforcement that it’s time to count sheep rather than play!

iPhone Screenshot 2Just like Oceanhouse Media’s other omBooks, the app does a wonderful job with narration, interactive pages, highlighted words, and sound effects. The illustrations stay true to the artwork within the actual book, with the added interactive feature where the reader can touch an illustration and find out what exactly it is.  Picture/word association is a great feature for young readers working on their vocabulary. Readers have the options to “Read to Me” (reader turns the pages, sees the words highlighted as they are read by a narrator,) “Read it Myself” (like a book where you turn the pages and read on your own with optional sound effects in the background,) or “Auto Play” (like a movie especially good for the younger audience).  Recently Oceanhouse Media has added the special feature “Record your own voice” to their omBooks, as another option to hear the story read. Mama’s out dancing and Lulu is in charge of the Five Little Monkeys. It’s bedtime for the rambunctious monkeys, but they persuade Lulu to play hide-and-seek. “Just one game,” says Lulu. “Then it’s right off to bed. Your bedtime’s at eight. That’s what your mama said.” But there’s always time for one more game! Join the Five Little Monkeys as they find the perfect hiding place where even their babysitter can’t find them!

Eileen Christelow’s vibrant illustrations and catchy rhymed text encourage young readers to count aloud from 10, 24 and all the way to 104 in this Five Little Monkeys caper.

New features in this omBook for your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch include professional narration, background audio and high resolution artwork for each scene. To promote reading in young children, individual words are highlighted as the story is read and words zoom up when pictures are touched. By combining the original text and artwork with features that entertain and promote reading, this omBook appeals to readers of all ages.
