Q: When and why did you decide to develop this app?mzl.iwzuoate.320x480-75
Susan Miller:
I have been involved in children’s media and licensing for a very long time, and after having developed some great apps for ““Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! ® we were looking for new brands we could work with to create apps.  I know there are certain brands that are recognized by parents for their commitment to quality entertainment and education. Animal Planet is recognized by kids for its animal-themed toys and by parents for their good values, and we knew we could make a great app that was in line with the brand.  Kids love animals, and our approach to designing this app was to combine cute animals and really fun activities to make something that would provide a new experience every time the app is picked up by a child.

Q: When did you first release this app?
Susan Miller: We released this app April 16, 2013, and it was quickly featured as New & Noteworthy on iTunes and as a Hot New Release on Amazon.  It has been very well received by reviewers and educators.

Q: What is your favourite feature?mzl.vnkpywva.320x480-75
Susan Miller:
This app is a lot of fun and whimsy built around common core activities and games.  It’s designed to get kids engaged and having fun while they practice some basic skills required for kindergarten.  There are also some creative activities such as coloring and music incorporated into the app. My favorite feature is the pet piano that allows kids to play with animal sounds.

Q: Who is your favourite character?
Susan Miller: This particular app features some adorable photorealistic pets.  Keeping with the Animal Planet brand meant we had to find a way to capture animals in a way that is natural to the world they live in, yet fun for kids, and I think our team did a great job.

Q: What skills were you hoping to help the end user to develop?
Susan Miller: The primary objective of this app is to entertain kids, but we have built in some educational elements. It would make us very proud to see one of these apps help a child gain a foothold in some basic reading, language and math skills.

Q: What age range would this app most suit?
Susan Miller: This app is  for Preschool and Kindergarten aged children, based on the Common Core State Standards for Kindergarten, but our sweet spot is ages 3-7.

Q: Are any new updates coming soon?
Susan Miller: Yes. We are working on some terrific new brands, including Strawberry Shortcake and Tickety Toc.  Also, we recently released a fantastic app based on the show Fraggle Rock, called Fraggle Friends Forever.
