McElligot’s Pool – Dr. Seuss
Developer: Oceanhouse Media
Oceanhouse Media has just published their newest omBook, McElligot’s Pool which was Dr. Seuss’ sixth published children’s book. It is a great story all about patience and of course contains all of the original, clever, whacky and imaginative details of Dr. Seuss! Just like Oceanhouse Media’s other omBooks, the interactive pages, great narration, highlighted words, and sound effects make McElligot’s Pool- Dr. Seuss another fun book to add to your digital collection!
While a boy named Marco is fishing at McElligot’s pool, a farmer warns the boy that the pool is small and the place that most people throw their trash in. So it would be very unlikely for him to catch anything no matter how long he tried. Marco thinks the farmer might be right, but maybe there is more to the pool than just what is in plain sight.
“Some very smart fellow might point out the way
To the place where I’m fishing. And that’s why I say
If I wait long enough; if I’m patient and cool,
Who knows what I’ll catch in McElligot’s Pool!”
So Marco’s patience and imagination takes him on quite the journey meeting all sorts of different creatures along the way. McElligot’s Pool is an excellent story on patience that becomes a long distance fishing journey looking for creatures all within a little boy’s imagination.
Just like Oceanhouse Media’s other omBooks, you have the options to “Read to Me” (reader turns the pages, sees the words highlighted as they are read by a professional narrator) “Read it Myself,” (like a book where you turn the pages and read on your own with sound effects in the background,) or “Auto Play” (like a movie especially good for the younger audience.) The interactive pages allow for readers gaining new vocabulary to touch a picture within the story, such as McElligot’s Pool, or the bird, or even the boot in the pool. And now Oceanhouse Media has even added the special feature “Record your own voice” to their omBooks, as another option to listening to the omBooks with the great narrator. (By Christie D.)
Young Marco casts his fishing line deep in McElligot’s pool and imagines the curious sea creatures that might bite. “I might catch a fish with a pinwheel-like tail! I might catch a fish who has fins like a snail!” Follow along as his imagination takes him around the world, seeking wild creatures with unusual habits!
“Who wants to catch small ones like mackerel or trout!
SAY! I’ll catch a Saw Fish with such a long stout
That he needs an assistant to help him about!”
New features only available in this omBook include professional narration, background audio and enlarged artwork for each scene. To promote reading in young children, individual words are highlighted as the story is read and words zoom up when pictures are touched. By combining the original text and artwork of Dr. Seuss with features that entertain and promote reading, this omBook appeals to readers of all ages.
